. Noor Dubai from initiative to NGO After the successful completion of the Noor Dubai initiative program to fight avoidable blindness. HH SHK. Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the UAE, ruler of Dubai announced the establishment of the Noor Dubai organization. The NGO will serve independently from the government of Dubai.
. ECRS club organizes a 1 day symposium at the Vision X 2009 The Emirates Cataract and Refractive Surgery Club organized a 1 day symposium in collaboration of with Vision X 2009. The symposium was divided into 3 main sessions including updates in corneal disease management, managing Keratoconus and a work-shop on phacoemulsification. Among the international speakers were Dr. Kim Terry - USA, Dr. Hisham Eissa - Egypt and Dr. Khalid Ahmed - Egypt. Many ophthalmologists participated from the UAE including Dr. Elias Jarade, Dr. Saleh Saif, Dr. Mohamed Anwar, Dr. Hisham Hamdi and many more from the governmental and private sector.
. Noor Dubai provides prevention of blindness treatment to 2.7 million individuals In a press release, HE Mr. Qadhi Al Murooshid announced the successful treatment of 2.7 million visually impaired individuals worldwide. This was achieved through the Noor Dubai initiative which was launched last September in 2008. Mr. Murooshid CEO of Noor Dubai announced that the majority of patients were from African countries.
. EMAOS launches the Emirates Women Ophthalmologists club Dr. Manal Taryam, president of the EMAOS has announced the inaugiuration of the Emirates Women Ophthalmologists club (EWO). The club is under the leadership of Dr. Hanan Al Shamsi from Al Ain and will serve women colleagues reach their potentials in establishing a career in ophthalmology. The club will concentrate on conducting regular forums and courses in leadership development, and healthcare quality.
